Pattern Decisions This Source Supports

Pattern Supported decision Required contract Claim note
Chip selection Choose chip selection when the chip set itself is the user's answer to a short choice question. Selecting a chip changes only that chip group's answer and does not navigate, run an action, remove the option, or filter unrelated content. Material documents chips for entering information, making selections, filtering content, and triggering actions, and distinguishes choice, filter, input, and action chip roles.
Filter chips Choose filter chips when there are a few high-frequency filters that can stay visible near the result set without overwhelming scanning. Selecting a filter chip toggles only that filter and updates the result count or result list without changing unrelated query, sort, pagination, or view state. Material Design distinguishes chip types and documents filter chips for collections, selected states, selected icons, placement, wrapping, and scrolling.
